January

WOw, what a month it has been! Being off for two months is great but it's difficult to get back into the routine of things. This month has been a busy one for us. We are digging into our lessons and getting ready for CST's in March. I have been trying to focus on reading comprehension because that is the most challenging for all students. Next month I will beginafter school sessions for those who need extra help. I will be sending letters home by the end of this week. It's not mandatory but I do highly recommend students attend.

Busy October

We are having a busy month so far. The class has been working hard on several things. On Friday students had a chance to sell the products they wrote about on their Business Plans. It was a lot of fun and we made some money. I'm still not sure how much because we have to pay back our investors. We also have been practicing for our performance Monday morning. We will be singing "Lean On Me" in the morning assembly. This Friday October 16, 2009 is our class field trip to the Gene Autry Museum. Here students will learn about California History. They will even have an opportunity to pan for gold. Last week student took the Math Wizards Test. We will have results sometime next week. This coming week, October 10-16 we will be taking the Reading Wizards Test. Our last day is October 23, 2009.

Parent Conference

It's that time of year! I always enjoy getting the opportunity to see my student's parents. The last time I saw some of you was at Back to School Night. How time flies! Well, I will be using our Conference time to review your child's progress so far and areas of concern. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask. I am looking forward to seeing you all again.

This month we will be having Parrent Conferences. They are scheduled the week of September 21st. I will be sending conference appointments next week. After conferences we will only have one more month in school. The last day of school is scheduled for October 23, 2009.

Assessment Time

Assessment time is here!! Students will be taking their Math and Open Court Assessment test soon. The assessment test cover skills and concepts we have covered since July. I will be sending home results as soon as possible so you can review it with them. We will also be spending time in class analyzing how they did. I recommend that you discuss any errors they made and help clarify any misunderstandings they may still have. Any questions or concerns e-mail me or see me.

Our first class technology project

I'm so excited to finally be undergoing our first class technology project. The students were put into groups and each group had to summarize one chapter from the book. So far we're up to chapter 7. We are half way done with the book. I thought this would be a good time to sum up the book and review the important events in the story. They are learning a lot of useful skills in this project. They are learning to work cooperatively with others, time management, writing, illustrating, technology, and communication. As well as publishing and editing. I'm very happy with the way the project is going. We are not finished yet. Time seems to be factor. Since this is the first time we all do a project like this it's taking a little more time. I know that with more practice on my part explaining it and the students working with the technology they will become more proficient. I posted our work , or what we have completed so far, on our Class Blog and on our Wiki page under Podcast. Go and visit our other sites and take a look.
